UFC Featherweight champion Jose Aldo is set to defend his title for the seventh time this Saturday night against Chad Mendes in the main event of UFC 179.

Although Aldo has a dangerous foe in front of him, he can not escape the discussions of Irish Featherweight sensation Conor McGregor. McGregor, the No. 5 ranked Featherweight, will be flown down to Brazil for the pay-per-view this weekend, and many believe that he will be fighting the winner of Saturday night’s main event.

Although Aldo is focused on Mendes, he did take the time to note in a recent interview with MMA Junkie that he sees nothing special in McGregor:

I’m not looking at anyone else at the moment. I’m focused on my next fight, which is against Chad Mendes. If people are hyping Conor, I haven’t read about it. After my fight, I’ll have time to see what the hype’s all about.

I make it a point to observe all fighters in the featherweight category. I’m the champion, and I plan to remain the champion. I do pay attention to any featherweight fight where someone is ranked in the UFC, since that could potentially be my next adversary. Conor is no different than any other fighter. I don’t see anything that stands out.

We are sure to hear McGregor fire back in the coming days, so stick with FightHubTV for all the incoming updates.
