Poor Jamie Varner, his fight with James Krause was looking like a barnburner until his ankle suddenly gave out a minute or so into their fight to open UFC 173. Granted, Varner showed a lot of heart. He immediately took down Krause, and was able to be relatively effective, but his injury was clearly hurting his performance. Krause, after the fight, said he kicked Varner’s calf on purpose, which means this Ankle Destruction™ is the first of its kind to my knowledge.
Much like Chris Weidman’s knee destruction, the Ankle Destruction is horrifying in its devastation.
So Varner is on a losing streak, and Krause is now 3-1 in the UFC. It’s a shame this fight had to end this way, but sometimes these things happen in MMA. To add insult to injury, the doctor even stepped on his injured foot after the fight. Damn.
