Gegard Mousasi submits Mark Munoz in Germany

Wow, just… Wow. I don’t think I’ve seen a performance that brilliant from top to bottom since Anderson Silva was in his prime. Gegard Mousasi has taken the UFC rankings from around the neck, and demanded that the (current) #11 ranked fighter be thrust into the top ten.

The UFC Fight Night 41 main event started as expected, with Mark Munoz shooting in from a distance on Gegard, muscling the Armenian down then picking him up in the air and slamming him. It was of no matter, however, Mousasi’s defensive grappling has sharpened and he got up, peppered Munoz then was able to move to the top position through a litany of impressive scrambles, eventually nailing the Filipino Wrecking Machine with elbows.

That led into Mousasi getting Munoz’s back, and Mousasi got the tap in the first round. Truly incredible. Mousasi needs a big fight and needs one immediately. Get him on another card by the end of the summer, he’s title material.

It’s now, with Anderson Silva out of the picture, where the middleweight division is at its most interesting. Just like 170 and GSP being gone. Crazy times.
