Francisco Rivera’s eye needs surgery, rematch with Urijah Faber has uncertain future

Francisco Rivera may have had the opportunity to rectify his controversial UFC 181 defeat to Urijah Faber, but the inadvertent eye poke that Faber ultimately capitalized on for the fight-ending choke did more damage than initially thought.

Both Faber and Rivera noted earlier today that they would be interested in a rematch, but Faber’s caveat was for the rematch to happen sooner rather than later, and more specifically at UFC 182 in January.

Unfortunately for Rivera, he won’t get the opportunity to rematch Faber any time soon as he will be going under the knife for the damage to his eye. Rivera shared the bad news on Instagram this evening.

As of now, there is no way to know how long Rivera will be out for, but you can bet that Faber will be moving on in his career.
