Of all the sensational matchups put together for the UFC 178 pay-per-view, not many expected that Middleweights Tim Kennedy and Yoel Romero would leave the MGM Grand with $50k in bonus money for winning the “Fight of the Night” honors.

While the fight itself was nothing short of spectacular, there was a ton of controversy that ultimately marred the result.

With about 30 seconds to go in the second round, Kennedy went on the offensive, badly rocking Romero and nearly finishing him before the bell sounded, saving Romero from unconsciousness.

Romero was obviously badly hurt during the break in between rounds 2 and 3, and when the bell sounded to signify the start of the third round, Romero was still sitting on the stool with too much vaseline put on his face.

Of course, Tim Kennedy and his corner were unhappy considering the fact that if a fighter can not answer the bell for the next round, the fight ends via TKO.

Instead, Romero was granted precious extra seconds to recover, and when he finally did get up to start round three, he knocked out Kennedy just a minute later.

After the fight, the two men met backstage momentarily, and things got heated as Kennedy was quite unhappy with the result. The UFC just released the entire exchange, so check it out below.
