Pacquiao vs. Algieri: Algieri says speed power overlooked; Manny just a man & mental approach

Chris Algieri showed that the increased media spotlight isn’t having a huge effect on him, as he sat with a crowd of reporters and answered questions with ease after the Gennady Golovkin versus Marco Antonio Rubio bout Saturday at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Crediting his ease of public speaking to his school days, he seemed to enjoy speaking with the media at hand and even cracked a few jokes here and there.

Algieri explained his reach and his purist boxing style would be to his advantage come Nov. 22 at The Venetian in Macao, China when he takes on WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. Also, he explained that his speed and power are two aspects of his game that are overlooked and hopes to display both against Pacman.

Media have noted that Pacauiao usually takes care of fighters that have had similar styles to Algieri, but with how the 30-year-old Huntington, New York native did against knockout artist Ruslan Provodinkov, no one can count out the undefeated fighter.

No matter what happens in their bout next month, Algieri seems to be taking the whole experience in and enjoying it.

Algieri’s plans to put money into a 401k and investing in his future is something many fighters, especially those getting their first seven-figure payday—his purse is reportedly in the $1 million range—so even if he loses, in the end the bout will be pay dividends well into the future for the former kickboxing champ.
