NVBHOF 2014 induction and awards ceremony highlights

For any athlete besides the fame and the fortune a sport can bring awards and honors are as good as anything money can buy.

In its second year the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame handed out its annual hall of fame inductions and awards to a wide array of honorees at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas Saturday.

The list of honorees, headlined by Evander Holyfield who was inducted to the hall of fame and Floyd Mayweather Jr. who accepted the fighter of the year award, included fighters, referees, match makers, journalists and more.

One of the highlights of the night was when former heavyweight foes, Holyfield and Mike Tyson were together again, as Tyson inducted Holyfield into the NVBHOF.

The two will be forever linked to the infamous ear-biting incident that occurred in their rematch in June 1998. It was good to see the two buried the hatchet and now are on friendly terms with each other.

With the large turnout this year expect the annual induction ceremony to be a hit with the boxing community for years to come. Nevada has as rich of history as any area in the world with boxing and it’s only fitting that a who’s who of the sport shows their gratitude by showing their support for the event.
