Golovkin vs. Rubio: Full El Veneno workout

Rubio G media Day

Coming in as a heavy underdog against the freight train they call Gennady Golvkin, the tough, gritty Marco Antonio Rubio will be looking to net the biggest win of his 66-fight career.

Each time he stepped up in competition and faced a big name fighter–once against Kelly Pavlik in 2009 and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in 2012–Rubio has failed to net a victory.

Rubio can culminate his career with a huge upset of GGG Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, but in order to do so he must fight a smart bout, and not get caught up in slugfest, which style-wise presents a problem for Rubio.

The 34-year-old Mexican fighter is known to stand in with fighters and trade blows, and going away from what he knows will be tough for Rubio.

He is coming off two-straight KO wins himself, but no one has really given Golovkin problems when it comes to him taking power shots.

Rubio has the power to end the fight early himself, but he will have to land that perfectly timed shot, while dodging Golvkin’s bombs, which will prove to be tough for Rubio, and let’s face it, anyone thrown in there with the undefeated  middleweight beast.

GGG has been talking about landing a pay-per-view fight with three big names, Miguel Cotto, Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., so he might be looking past Rubio, but seeing his track record, GGG is as professional as anyone in the sport today, so Rubio better not count on catching him off guard Saturday night.
