The CM Punk saga continues.
After a ton of feedback, good and bad, from UFC fighters regarding the signing of former WWE professional wrestler Phil “CM Punk” Brooks, there is a rumor that Brooks asked to fight former No. 1 contender Chael Sonnen in the Octagon first to prove his worth.
That rumor originated from none other than Bellator star and former UFC champion Tito Ortiz:
@sonnench I heard @CMPunk wanted to fight you first to prove to the fans he can fight.

Sonnen soon confirmed the rumor via Twitter:
“@titoortiz: @sonnench I heard @CMPunk wanted to fight you first to prove to the fans he can fight.” That’s true. Texted me directly. — chael sonnen (@sonnench) December 17, 2014
Regardless of how badly CM Punk wants to prove he can fight, he will never get a chance at Chael Sonnen for a multitude of reasons. 1. Sonnen is currently retired. 2. Sonnen was suspended for two years by the NSAC for failing two drug tests this past summer. 3. UFC is going to give CM Punk a fighter of similar ability, giving Brooks the chance to pull off a victory on pay-per-view.
The hoopla was fun while it lasted, but don’t expect to see Sonnen ever fight Brooks inside the Octagon.
