Amir Khan vs. Devon Alexander: Alexander says ‘Amir Khan hasn’t fought anyone elite; UK fans want to see me win’

Alexander interviw Khan FH 2014

The quality of a fighter’s opponents is what makes or breaks them as their career goes on. So fighting top level fighters will prepare a boxer for success as their career matures.

Devon Alexander (26-2, 14 KOs) has fought several elite fighters in his most recent bouts and has came out victorious on all but two occasions.

His opponent on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs), has fought some solid competition as well, despite what Alexander says. Khan was only victorious against Marcos Maidana and Zab Judah in those bouts, losing to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia in successive fights.

The four-fight Showtime televised card, which begins at 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST,f also features, Jermall Charlo versus Lenny Bottai, Abner Mares facing Jose Ramirez and Keith Thurman taking on Leonard Bundu.

Khan, 28,  has been involved in bigger fight weeks than Alexander over the years, but the St. Louis, Missouri native seems as relaxed as any fighter in a week full of media obligations, in his first fight in Las Vegas.

Alexander, 27, does deserve more credit in the ring as he beat the likes of  Maidana, Lucas Matthysse and Randall Bailey, and his only two defeats are against two of the best today in Timothy Bradley and Shawn Porter.

Alexander can gain the respect that he says he deserves by disposing of Khan Saturday night, as there is big buzz surrounding this bout, especially with possible Floyd Mayweather Jr. implications involved.

If Alexander does beat Khan, he can then shout out his fans in the United Kingdom, the area where Khan hails from, as he says they want him to win. Those comments are sure to not sit kindly with Khan and could add some extra motivation behind the Brit’s attack.
