Earlier in the week we released Michael Mardones’ chat with Cesar Gracie in which the two discussed what Strikeforce Lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez has been up to since injuring his shoulder prior to his title defense. Now we continue that conversation in which the topic turns to top UFC welterweight contender Nick Diaz.
MMA fans have not seen Diaz inside the Octagon since his disputed loss to interim champion Carlos Condit in February of last year. The loss prompted Diaz to say he would retire and as we all know, Diaz would later test positive for Marijuana metabolites in a post fight drug test. Gracie speaks on what Diaz has been up to commenting that the 209 native is a true martial artist in every sense of the word.
He expects Diaz to be back in early 2013, though no exact date or opponent is mentioned. It is no secret though that Diaz would love to have a bout with Anderson Silva as well as UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, “He is ready to fight and I think everyone knows who he wants to fight, he wants Georges St-Pierre and if something happens Nick would jump right in.”
