Yuriorkis Gamboa still wants Brandon Rios, feels Rios is not on Manny Pacquiao’s level on rumored bout; would like to headline PPV in 2013

Sporting a undefeated record and a stellar amateur background that includes a Olympic gold medal, Yuriorkis Gamboa seemed to be on the fast track to big money fights in the mid part of 2012. A announced bout with Brandon Rios had fans salivating at the fact of the type of ring drama that could be produced, but alas it was not meant to be. Gamboa never stepped foot in the ring nor on the dais as he no showed for the press conference tour in which began a year of tug and war legal battles between himself his promoters Top Rank and outside entities wanting him to leave Top Rank.

In the end, Gamboa would be released for a ridiculous sum of money and signed over to 50 Cent’s promotional outfit, SMS Promotions. His return to the ring on December 8th on the undercard of Pacquiao vs. Marquez 4 would see his over one year hiatus go away but his performance left many with questions as to where to Cuban standout is really at. In this interview with Marcos Villegas, Gamboa states that one of his goals this year is to headline a PPV match up and that he still would like to fight Brandon Rios.
