Marcos Maidana is riding high after his rather lopsided unanimous decision win over Mayweather protege Adrian Broner last December, and now he’s coming for the man himself, Mayweather. Still, Maidana is bringing an earnestness to this fight that many haven’t seen out of a Floyd opponent. Maidana is as heavy of a puncher as it gets, and since going under the wing of Robert Garcia, he’s developed his punching power and accuracy into the best of his career. The only thing standing in front of the WBA 147-pound champion is Floyd Mayweather. Floyd knows this, too. Floyd is coming into this fight focused. He knows he’s faced some big punchers in his time, and he knows Maidana is a very good fighter, but he’s also ****in’ Floyd Mayweather. Our Marcos Villegas asked, “Floyd, when you see this matchup, and you saw the Maidana/Broner matchup, who did Maidana remind you of in the past opponents of your career?”

“I can’t really say because I was looking at the fight as a fan or a spectator. He went out there, out-hustled Broner and did what he was supposed to do. He’s a solid champion, a strong champion. He has an 80% knockout ratio. This is a guy I can’t overlook.” “Cotto is a good puncher, Canelo. A lot of guys out there that are very solid and very strong. Diego Corrales was a big puncher. It’s about being smart, taking your time.” “I think Bernard Hopkins is a legendary champion like myself, but I believe in one fight at a time. Maidana is going to be in front of me May 3rd and all I can do is keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.”
