Sergio Martinez vs. Darren Barker: Martinez’s Last Workout Before HBO Bout

The majority of people coast to coast are unaware of the marvel that is Sergio Martinez and that he is the third best fighter in the world right behind Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Martinez who is on a quest to be recognized as pound-4-pound best, believes on day he will achieve his dream and that hopefully it will lead to a superfight with one of the two aforementioned fighters.

Martinez, who had a career best performance against then undefeated Serhiy Dzinziruk back in March, looks to continue his path against undefeated European champion Darren Barker this weekend in Atlantic City on HBO. Barker, whom we spoke to a few days ago, believes that Martinez is overlooking him. When we saw Martinez last Saturday in his last workout before this bout, it appeared to us that he was taking this fight as it was his most important. When asked if he feels he should be fighting someone the name quality of Barker, Martinez simply stated, “The big fights will come. If I keep beating guys I will get those big fights and become pound-4-pound best.” It is with this mind set that Martinez comes into this bout, determined to defend his title of best middleweight in the world with the hopes and dreams of brighter lights and PPV paydays.
