Before ACL tear Dominick Cruz talks about Urijah Faber’s striking “My stand up has gotten better as well”

So as it was announced yesterday, Dominick Cruz, the current UFC bantamweight champion suffered a ACL injury and is out of his title defense against rival Urijah Faber. It comes as a major setback for the champion as injuries of the sort take up to or more than six months to recover from. His bout with Faber was scheduled to take place at UFC 148 as the co main event to the title fight between Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva. Cruz had been training in Las Vegas for the bout and filming for this seasons taping of The Ultimate Fighter.

It comes to us as a shock and disappointment. The rubber match was really intriguing for the simple fact that in his past fight Urijah Faber had really turned the page in his standup, finally putting together combination punches. Faber was able to knock down Cruz on the first fight on multiple occasions and many observed that if were able to put together punches rather than pot shot, the bout may of swung his way. We actually had caught up with Cruz a week before his injury as we asked him about Faber’s improved standup and if spending so much time with his nemesis has changed his views on him.
