UFC President Dana White spoke about his recent conversation with professional boxer Andre Berto about fighting under the Zuffa banner.
“It is true, we bumped into each other one night in Los Angeles, and you know, he’s a tough guy, he’s a fighter and he said, ‘You know, man, I would love to try this UFC stuff.’ I said, ‘Brother, you better work on your wrestling, you know?’ I don’t know, it was just talk and I know he’s talking about publicly right now, but who knows, we’ll see what happens.”
So the boss man has already entertained the idea of bringing the do-or-die boxer into the Octagon. While White confirms there was a discussion about the boxer testing his mettle in MMA competition, Berto’s already set to fight this summer (July 20, 2013) opposite Jesus Soto Karass.
So don’t expect to see him sporting the smaller mittens anytime soon.
The question is, can Andre Berto bring a good brawl to the UFC? I’d say give him the right matchups — much like they do with Pat Barry — who is just an athletic kickboxer ‘gettin’ frisky 24 hours a day.’ (link article below)
If Andre Berto happens to enter the Octagon, hopefully he’ll get the fights his style is best suited for.
