Cruz dominates Johnson, Struve taps Barry

Dominick Cruz kept his title reign alive after a 5-round war against Demetrious Johnson. Twenty-five minutes of non-stop action carried Cruz in his decision victory over “Mighty Mouse.” Cruz used his trademark style of striking, as well as surprisingly dominant grappling to control Johnson en route to a unanimous decision victory.

The fun, whacky co-main of the night played into common logic. Stefan Struve’s reach advantage against Pat Barry proved to make as much of a difference as most thought it would. While Barry eventually found his distance and began to land some shots, grappling contributed. As soon as the two locked up, “The Skyscraper” was searching for submissions and found a triangle choke. Barry tried to powerbomb his way out, but it was to no avail. Barry had to tap out.

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson returned to form tonight with a 1st round TKO victory. After shutting down all of Charlie Brenneman’s offense, Rumble kicked Brenneman in the head exceedingly hard. While Brenneman may have survived the kicked, the fight was heading toward his ultimate demise and Yamasaki stopped things before they got really ugly.

The televised evening began with a wild rematch between Handsome Matt Wiman and Mac Danzig. Wiman got in Danzig’s face at the very start and didn’t back down until the final bell. There were several exchanges that put the fight in-the-air but Wiman was able to control the majority of the bout. This one ended like the original; with Handsome Matt getting his hand raised.
