This weekend undefeated light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud will step back into the ring and defend his title for a fourth time against former world champion Gabriel Campillo sharing the spotlight with Paul Williams. Williams will take on James Kirkland conqueror Nobuhiro Ishida as all four fighters will be showcased on Showtime this Saturday. We had a chance to speak to cloud about his upcoming title defense.
FHTV: So Tavoris to you what is the most important thing you have to do on Saturday night?
TC: I am going to make a statement that I am a vicious champion and I refuse to be defeated You can train as long as you want, you can train as hard as you want, but it just ain’t gonna help you.
FHTV: People feel that Campillo is not in your league, but you have to expect that he will try to raise his level for this bout with you?
TC: Campillo’s coming to take my title and I’m offended. That’s why he’s in for a nightmare. It’s going to be Armageddon for him. [I] need to get your [Campillo’s] ass in the ring. Let’s get this over with. I’m real serious inside of my head right now.
FHTV: Those fight fans that have seen you fight, they know you’re an aggressive fighter willing to trade shots with your opponents. With that said I know your training camp has adjusted a bit for this bout, let us know about it?
TC: We do something called Kill-a-Bitch Training. This ain’t regular training for a regular 12-round fight. I can’t even come to the gym and say the wrong thing. My team says, ‘Get your mind right.’ I’m in a good place because I am world champion.
FHTV: Finally Tavoris, what do you make of many people in your division refusing to fight you?
TC: Guys are refusing to fight me, and they come up with every excuse in the book
