Clay Guida “Gilbert Melendez is at the top of his game right now”

So you remember that one MMA organization…Strikeforce? Yea, they have this little thing going on this weekend, you probably haven’t really heard much about it. It is really no big deal, just a former UFC heavyweight champion taking on some Olympian and one of the top lightweights in the world having a rubber match with that one guy with a really nice tan. Yea…horrible how much Strikeforce is gone on the way side in terms of being the neglected red headed step child of the Zuffa family.

This weekend, The Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix finals will finally take place as chance or fate has put Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier on opposing ends of each other. The tournament started out as one of the most highly anticipated MMA events in recent years but the Zuffa purchase of Strikeforce all but gutted the tournament roster. To add to that, we do not even know if the winner will move onto the UFC, which must play into the minds of both Cormier and Barnett.

The semi main event will steal the show in my opinion. The rubber match between Gilbert Melendez, the current Strikeforce lightweight champion and Josh Thomson will certainly provide high spots and drama. You gotta wonder though if it might tip in favor of Melendez given the form he is in right now. We are not the only ones talking about this match up as Dustin De La Torre spoke to UFC lightweight Clay Guida his opinion of Gilbert Melendez and the possibility of fighting him over at Strikeforce in this video interview!
