Champion vs. Champion on April 20th, Ben Henderson meets Gilbert Melendez in the UFC

wec40_ben_henderson_mainAfter much talk, contracts, organizations being bought and sold mixed in with a couple injuries, Ben Henderson vs. the Cesar Gracie fight team part II is upon us. This time, it’s longtime Strikeforce lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez, who is primed and ready to get an immediate title shot upon entering the UFC. The date is April 20th, the place is Gilbert’s old Strikeforce stomping grounds of the HP Pavilion in San Jose. The channel? FOX. Millions of people will have their eyes on these two lightweight champions and it’s the UFC on FOX done right.

It looks like Ben Henderson is being promoted as the FOX champion, this being his second title defense on FOX broadcasts. Gilbert comes into this fight on a near year-long layoff, after injuries and Strikeforce dying forced him out of competition following his controversial split-decision win over Josh Thomson in May of 2012.

If both of these men make their way into the Octagon on April 20th, expect a fight of the year candidate.
