Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s uncle, Roger Mayweather, has been around the sport of boxing for quite some time and has insight of the sport that many don’t have.

Going off Roger’s thought of Floyd is more skilled than “Sugar” Ray Leonard can’t be overlooked. Roger’s brother and Floyd’s father, Floyd Mayweather Sr. took Leonard the distance in their 1979 bout, so the family has firsthand accounts of how good Leonard really is.

Both Mayweather Jr. and Leonard were the best fighters of their era and as in any sport it is tough to compare elite athletes from different eras. Mayweather obviously is as skilled of a fighter as the sport has ever seen, so saying that he is more skilled than Leonard, although objective is not entirely untrue.

Mayweather Jr. and Leonard are eerily similar in their careers even outside the “who is more skilled talk”.

Mayweather and Leonard can also be compared by the money making ability thy both possess in the ring. The world is all too familiar with Mayweather Jr.’s love for money, hence his nickname “Money”, but some might not know that Leonard was the Mayweather of his era.

Leonard was the first boxer to amass $100 million in earnings from fight purses, but he wasn’t as flashy about the monetary awards as Mayweather Jr. is.

Both Mayweather Jr. and Leonard are five-division champions something that only a handful of boxers can claim.

So in the argument of who is more skilled you can’t really pick a winner due to conflicts of era, but they are so similar that you could argue that no matter if you choose Mayweather Jr. or Leonard one can’t be wrong.
