Nonito Donaire last stepped foot into a boxing ring in November of last year in a back and forth rematch with iron fisted Vic Darchinyan. It was not the strongest performance of Donaire’s career, as a determined Darchinyan sought a vestige of revenge for the pair’s first bout in 2009. Alas, history would again repeat itself as the same exact punch that disposed of Darchinyan at the Harbor Yard Arena moons ago came back to haunt him via a vicious hook. Soon after Donaire would go on to announce that he would be taking some more time off to be with his newborn son.

With 2014 now in full swing, it had us wondering when we could see “The Filipino Flash” back in the ring. So naturally we spoke to head trainer Robert Garcia who expects Donaire to be back in May of this year. No specific date has been neither announced nor opponent but in this exclusive interview with Marcos Villegas, Garcia wants the team to target the best the featherweight division has to offer.
