After wondering how successful the rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana would do in pay-per-view sales, if the preliminary results are true, it did just as good as their first bout in May.

Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole tweeted out that the Sept. 13 PPV did around 925,000 buys during its Mexican Independence Day weekend fight card.

The number isn’t too shabby, despite many considering any Mayweather event that doesn’t draw over 1 million buys unsuccessful.

The first Mayeather-Maidana bout reportedly did around 900,000 buys, giving the rematch a slight edge in PPV success.

This would make the combined 1.825 million PPV buys for both Maidana fights under the PPV total Mayweather received during his 2013 Mexican Independence day bout with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, which garnered 2.2 million buys and a record $150 million.

Sure that bout was seen as Mayweather’s best chance to lose in recent memory heading into it, but Mayweather showed Canelo that he wasn’t yet on his level, beating him fairly handily.

With his last two fights allegedly pulling under a million PPV buys, expect a fighter with a known name in the sport to face Money May next, most likely British star Amir Khan if he is successful in his planned December bout.
