Trainer Naazim Richardson has been a part of some big time fights while training his fighters, such as Shane Mosley, and his insight into the Floyd Mayweather-Saul Alvarez bout should be listened to.

The time is definitely right for Alvarez to face Mayweather, as there is no better time than Sept. 14 for the up-and-coming star to fight in the biggest fight of his career.

Mayweather, 35, is still sharp and has the speed that has made him a household name in the sport of boxing. Coming off a dominant victory over Robert Guerrero in May, Mayweather looked as good as he has in the past few years.

Waiting any longer to face Mayweather, Alvarez would run the risk of criticism of catching Mayweather too past his prime and maybe not get the accolades if he did well in a fight a year or two down the line.

Right now if Alvarez could pull the upset and beat Mayweather no one would doubt if Mayweather is as good as he once was, because to be honest Mayweather’s skills in the ring have not diminished very much.

Outside of Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao, the Mayweather-Alvarez bout is as big as it could get in boxing at the moment and fans will finally get a megafight that they truly wanted to see.

Both Mayweather and Alvarez have to be applauded for taking the fight, as they both could have fought different opponents in their next fights to make some extra money before possibly fighting somewhere in the future. But a loss or some unexpected issues on the contract negotiations—something that plagues boxing these days—and this huge fight may have never been.

As Sept. 14 steadily approaches fans worldwide should appreciate everything that is involved in the Mayeather-Alvarez fight. We will see if Mayweather can continue his dominance of the sport or if a new generation boxer will take the helm as boxing’s biggest superstar.
