Mikkel Kessler stops Allan Green by Brutal KO

by Jorge Alarcon-Swaby

Allan Green surprised everyone by knocking Mikkel Kessler down in the first round of their bout on Saturday night. For a second we all thought Kessler was done and Green would emerge as a star.

That script was to good to be true but I wondered when or if things would kick back into reality. Kessler eventually recovered and made it out of the first round and safely sat at his corner, gaining his composure and taking instruction from his team.

Throughout the second round Kessler’s legs were back under him and his jab started to snap again, rockin Green’s head back continually. Towards to the end of the round Kessler landed a good right hand which hurt Green, there it was, we were back in reality.

Kessler came out with much more confident now in the 3rd round. Green on the other hand retrieved back to his old ways, with a scared look in his eyes and not throwing any punches. When Green did try to mix it up, Kessler landed a massive, flush and brutal left hook to the chin of Green which caused him to fall straight back into the canvas and for referee Ian John-Lewis to call for medical assistant right away.

Green was laid out in the canvas for a good 3 minutes while Kessler joyfully celebrated with his team and the crowd what could end up being the KO of the year.

In conclusion.

A few days ago an wrote and article talking about this fight and made a prediction for it. I said the fight Kessler would win a UD decision and put his name right back into contention for fights against the big names of the weight class. With this impressive knockdown he did more than that, he skyrocketed himself to top of the list to face guys like Dawson, Dirrell, Bute, Pascal and so forth.

Hopefully promoters will not try to keep their fighters away from Kessler after seeing today’s results. They shouldn’t have much reason to, Green has always been extremely overrated.
