Floyd Mayweather Jr. hints at retirement, says Miguel Cotto “is toughest opponent he has faced”

Shortly after his bout with Miguel Cotto last Saturday, Floyd Mayweather Jr. addressed a small throng of reporters before leaving to celebrate his victory. Mayweather was asked some of the typical questions you might here at a scrum such as “what you feel about the fight,” “will you fight Manny Pacquiao next,” but what was surprising is what Mayweather admitted to. For one, in a interview we did with him last week, Mayweather reaffirmed that his toughest bout to date in his eyes was still with journeyman Emmanuel Augustus who at that time was named Emmanuel Burton. Well that went out the bag as Mayweather was quick to say that Miguel Cotto now takes that place over Augustus.

Indeed Cotto pushed Mayweather as hard as he had been pushed, perhaps to the point of his first match up with Jose Luis Castillo. Though the performance the defensive master gave was his best to date since his scintillating win over the then undefeated Diego Corrales back in 2001. So what is next for Mayweather? Well he admitted to us that he is not sure and that if he can not face Manny Pacquiao there is no one left to face in his eyes. If this is the scenario he is left with, Mayweather admits that he indeed may just retire.
