Mayweather Jr., Mayweather Sr. and Richard Schaefer on Bob Arum’s boycott comments

While attending media day for “The Moment” Tuesday at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, I asked the same question to three people: Floyd Mayweather Jr, Floyd Mayweather Sr. and Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, “What is your response to Top Rank’s Bob Arum telling fans to boycott Mayweather’s bouts in order to help get a fight with Manny Pacquiao made?”

The three answers were as different as could be and the one that was the most controversial didn’t come from the mouth of Mayweather Jr. as would be the case in the past.

Here are the responses from the trio.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“The only thing we can do is pray for Bob Arum. You know pray for him. I mean, I don’t want to say anything negative about Bob Arum, you know I wish Bob Arum nothing but the best and we doing what we doing over here.”

Floyd Mayweather Sr.

“F–k Pacquiao. You get what I’m saying? F–k Pacquiao.”

Richard Schaefer

“At this point I think you can only feel sorry for him [Bob Arum]. I know some people over there at Top Rank, with one of them I actually have a very good relationship and they are even embarrassed for the way Arum is behaving. That’s not the way you run a business with the kind of comments he’s making.”

With the varied response who knows if the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight we’ve all been waiting for will ever happen, but with the rumor of Oscar De La Hoya and Arum reportedly in talks to set up Saul “Canelo” Alvarez with Pacquiao, getting that fight made may open the door to the megafight that is now five years in the making.
