Mayweather and Ellerbe could be going separate ways

Despite the two trying to portray a cheerful relationship during the lead up to the Marcos Maidana rematch this past Satirday, all is not well in Mayweather land, as a rift between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Leonard Ellerbe has apparently erupted.

Ellerbe, who serves as Mayweather’s adviser/CEO of Mayweather Promotions, and Mayweather apparently didn’t see eye to eye on several things, despite the two looking like old buddies all fight week.

Mayweather didn’t seem like his usual self  during fight week, cracking jokes here and there, but it was obvious he had something on his mind.

“Leonard, I think we’re just getting to a point where we’re outgrowing each other,” Mayweather told Mayweather told Ben Thompson of FightHype.com. “I think I just see things my way and I think he sees things in another way. For example, this time around when I went out and fought, my WBC and WBA titles in both weight classes were on the line and I didn’t approve of that at all. That’s something I didn’t approve of.

“Also, my daughter was sitting in the front row and her mother wasn’t sitting next to her, so the ticket arrangements were totally wrong. It just got to a point to where everyone wants to do what they want to do instead of communicating and compromising like we used to. We got to this point by us communicating and compromising.”

If the problem can’t be corrected, Ellerbe, a longtime fixture in Mayweather’s camp may no longer work with the pound-for-pound king.

There is talk of former Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer coming in to fill the void that would be left by Ellerbe’s absence, but he has to square away his pending litigation with Golden Boy before any such pairing could take place.

In all, signs point to changes coming to Mayweather’s camp, but one thing will remain the same, the man who is thanked hand-in-hand with God by his fighters, Al Haymon, will still be along with Mayweather for his ride into the sunset.

“We may make a lot of changes in my team, but Al Haymon ain’t going nowhere,” he said.
