Sergio Martinez asks “If Cotto is the A side, how many A fighters has he beaten?”

Did he just say that? Sergio Martinez is not a fan of Miguel Cotto and his demands for their June 7th HBO PPV clash at Madison Square Garden in New York. The lineal middleweight champion of the world has been out of action for close to a year and when he steps in the garden he will be introduced first, a right usually reserved for a challenger.

It has aggravated him so much that on two stops of their 3 city press tour, Martinez has verbally put Cotto on blast over it, calling it a egotistical move. Cotto contends he is the A side, he is the name that will put butts in seats and that everyone will see in New York.

Like it or not, he does have a point. A point that eats at Martinez who told our Marcos Villegas it is the move of a “egotistical man who acts like a child.” The usually respectful Martinez is not one to trash talk but it is something that he has taken personal offense to. Martinez though brings up a head scratching question,  Cotto has faced the elite of elite in his storied career, but has Miguel Cotto beaten a A fighter?

Yup, he just did that.
