Manny Pacquiao: “I expected Canelo to fight like Manny Pacquiao”

Pacquiao on CaneloMayweather

Leading up to Manny Pacquiao’s return to the ring on Nov. 23 against Brandon Rios questions pertaining to longtime nemesis, Floyd Mayweather Jr., were bound to pop up at some point.

During one of his interviews with press during fight week in Macau, “Pac-Man” was asked what he thought of the Mayweather and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez bout that took place in September and he responded, “He (Canelo Alvarez) didn’t do nothing.”

He went on to say he thought Alvarez would fight like himself, aggressive, but one would think that’s what Canelo’s plan was heading into the bout to which he loss via majority decision.  Mayweather and his superior defensive fight style takes his opponents out of their planned attack, making them look like second-rate opposition for the most part.

Seeing that Pacquiao would hope to be the aggressor if he ever were to fight Mayweather (and we all know it won’t) that would play right into “Money May’s” hands, as aggressive fighters get eaten alive by Mayweather’s counter punching.

Sure the argument might be, “Mayweather has never fought someone with Pacquiao’s speed and power”, but that wouldn’t make much difference. Mayweather is as elusive of a fighter that there is today, so that would be the wrong game plan for Pacquiao to take in a possible Mayweather bout.

Seeing that he thought he would see Alvarez be like Pacquiao, but saw him do “nothing”, is comical because a similar result would likely be seen if Pacquiao would stalk Mayweather if the fight of mythical proportions were to ever play out in reality.
