Mayweather Promotions CEO, Leonard Ellerbe doesn’t want any excuses from the Robert Guerrero camp or the media on whether or not the best Guerrero will be in the ring with Floyd Mayweather on May 4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev.

With felony gun charges looming over Guerrero’s head and a court date just 10 days after the biggest fight of his career, one could speculate that Guerrero could be affected mentally in the bout.

“I don’t know [how Guerrero’s legal problems will affect his mental state]. Anytime you have a legal situation, Floyd has had his share, it definitely weighs on you. When you’re in the limelight and you’re on center-stage there’s a lot of things that happen that would go unnoticed if you weren’t in that situation. Now he’ll get a chance first-hand, what it’s like to be in a situation where people are going to judge you upon an allegation or an accusation, as opposed to what the law says,” Ellerbe explained.

Ellerbe went on to say that even though Guerrero could have the legal situation in the back of his mind, no excuses will be taken on if Guerrero was at his best in the bout on May 4.

“Oh most definitely [we’ll see the best Guerrero on May 4]. We don’t even want that to even remotely start, so don’t start that bullshit about that being an excuse on why he can’t get it done. The last I checked he was ready, willing and able to fight on May 4, and there’s nothing that’s going to stop him.”

A hot topic going into the Mayweather bout is the “good versus evil” angle, as Guerrero is looked at as good, being heavily religious and Mayweather evil due to his lavish, sometimes over-the-top personality often portrayed on T.V. Ellerbe said that isn’t a concern to the Money Team, as they are focused on the task at hand, beating Guerrero.

“We don’t worry about that kind of stuff. You know it’s a fight and two guys got to get in there and do their thing. It don’t matter what I say, it don’t matter what his managers say, the fans say cause they are going to get in there and do their thing and the best guy is going to win.”

As far as Mayweather his right-hand man, Ellerbe said that the “Money May” you see on T.V. is a totally different person from the Mayweather behind closed doors.

According to Ellerbe, a tamer, caring Mayweather is the norm when he is no in front of a camera.

“Money Mayweather is just a persona. It’s a persona and a character, who goes out there, promotes his events and it has helped him to become the star that he is, Ellerbe said. “Aside from that he is a family man, a loving caring guy who loves to give back to his community. He loves to spend time with his family and kids; that’s the Floyd Mayweather.”

No matter what lies ahead for both fighters after the May 4 fight-date, the action in the ring should be a spectacle in its own right. We will see if a legend can keep his undefeated record going, or if an up and coming star will be put on center stage with a career-defining win.
