Klitschko Dominiates Haye To Capture Another Heavyweight Title

For all the talking David Haye did coming into the biggest heavyweight title fight since Mike Tyson vs. Lennox Lewis, it was a simple case of writing checks that your ass cant cash. On Saturday night in Hamburg, Germany, Wladimir Klitschko added the WBA heavyweight title to his growing collection of belts (IBF/WBO/IBO) in defeating Haye over 12 rounds via a unanimous decision victory. It was a odd sight to see as many expected Haye to start off the fight with fireworks and end it early as he expected. Fans were treated to a cautious David Haye who constantly slipped the jab of Klitschko though never followed up with any significant or meaningful punches.

The height and reach of Klitschko certainly didn’t make his job any bit easier as Haye would constantly lunge in to land a big shot and in the process would end up on the canvas, often complaining that he was being pushed down by the Urkraine fighter. He did such a superb job in doing so that the referee deducted a point from Klitschko in round eight but caught on that Haye may have been diving too frequently and deducted a point from Haye in the eleventh.

He was very difficult to hit, Very cautious,” Klitschko said of Haye. “I really didn’t get challenged in the ring offensively. You know, like “let’s fight! I would have loved to have celebrated my 50th knockout.”

When asked about his cautiousness in the ring, Haye revealed that he had suffered a broken toe three weeks back. He attributed the injury to not being able to fully leverage his right hands and thus he attributes affected his performance.
