Hozumi Hasegawa (29-3, 12 KOs) became the WBC featherweight champion jumping two divisions defeating unbeaten Juan Carlos Burgos (25-1, 18 KOs) by unanimous decision (117-110. 117-110,116-111) in Nagoya, Japan.
The fight had some rough spots with Hasegawa being the aggressor for most of the fight. His counter punching and experience showed through as Burgos displayed tremendous heart. By the end of it all, Hasegawa claimed the featherweight title, as a looming fight with Jhonny Gonzalez is next in order by WBC mandate.
