Gennady Golovkin wants to unify the middleweight titles as he was not surprised Cotto beat Martinez.

With the new crowning of a middleweight champion this past Saturday, Gennady Golovkin has set it in his mind to unify the middleweight titles and grab that elusive green WBC belt. Many consider Golovkin to be the number one guy in the division, but to officially get that distinction, you have to beat the lineal champion. In order to do that, Golovkin must get past Daniel Geale on July 26th in Madison Square Garden.

Geale, a former two-time world champion with wins over world class competition is probably the biggest test the young Golovkin has faced to this point. In speaking with Geale yesterday at the Los Angeles press conference, he stood firm that he is not intimidated by Golovkin’s punching power. So confident he is in himself that Geale feels he has the ability to cause a huge upset on July 26th.

It is this very reason that Golovkin, though he eagerly seeks a unification bout with Cotto won’t look past Daniel Geale. In speaking with him yesterday, we both talk about the Cotto vs. Martinez bout, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Daniel Geale.
