mayweather25s-1-web

The day is finally upon us as “The One” mega-event is only a few hours away and the world will find out if Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is the real deal or if he will be another number added to the win column of pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Alvarez is considered as the toughest opponent for Mayweather since his 2007 split-decision win over the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya and the heavy Mexican contingent hopes that Alvarez can catapult his star power into the realm of what De La Hoy once was with a win Saturday night.

While Mayweather will look to add his 45th consecutive victory in as many fights as he fights towards the 49-0 record set by all-time great Rocky Marciano.

Danny Garcia vs. Lucas Matthysse

In the featured undercard bout which many feel will steal the show Saturday night you have junior welterweight titlist Danny Garcia taking on the always dangerous Lucas Matthysse.

Even though Garcia is the champ coming in, he is considered the underdog by most and this has sent his father/trainer, Angel Garcia, into many tirades and even going as far to insult Matthysse’s country and people.

Matthysse has fought for years to finally reach a legit title bout and you can bet he will be swinging for the fences looking for an early stoppage. Matthysse (34-2, 32 KOs) has won by KO in 32 of his 34 bouts, giving him a whopping 94 percent knockout percentage.

Garcia (26-0, 16 KOs) has enough power of his own, but if he wants to retain his belts he must focus more on boxing than getting into a slugfest as we have seen time-and-time-again no one wins in a battle of power punches with Matthysse.

Ishe Smith vs. Carlos Molina

After fighting his whole career through ups-and-downs and contemplating suicide, junior middleweight Ishe Smith finally found all of his hard work paying off in his win over Cornelius Bundrage earlier this year en route to winning the IBF title. Smith has said that he has had the toughest training camp of his career leading up to this bout and wants to do everything he can to keep the belt he has fought so hard to obtain.

Carlos Molina has been around the sport for some time and has faced some quality opponents such as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Mike Alvarado to name a few, but Molina has fallen short in his biggest matches. This could be Molina’s last chance at capturing a major title so he will be fighting for his career Saturday night.

Ashley Theophane vs. Pablo Cesar Cano

Newly signed Mayweather Promotions fighter Ashely Theophane has made a name for himself in his native United Kingdom and he hopes that signing with Floyd Mayweather’s promotional company will put him on the map in the United States.

Theophane has fought some quality fighters including a gutty performance against Danny Garcia in 2010 in which he loss via split-decision giving Garcia all he could handle. The Cano fight will not only be his first fight in Las Vegas, it will also be his first pay-per-view fight as well. So a key will be how Theophane handles the new-found pressures set in front of him Saturday night.

Pablo Cesar Cano is coming off two-straight losses, one to Shane Mosley in May and one to Paulie Malignaggi in late 2012 and is 7-3 in his last 10 bouts. Those three losses are the only three of Cano’s career, but they came when he stepped up his competition in Mosley, Garcia and Erik Morales.

As Cano steps up in competition once again will we see if he can handle it this time or if he is destined to become a journeyman fighter at the young age of 23 after losing in a big fight yet again.
