Floyd Mayweather going for the KO against Marcos Maidana

Mayweather on KOing Maidana FightHub

Despite not having a knockout win since his controversial fourth round KO of Victor Ortiz in 2011, the pound-for-pound champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he is gunning for a early stoppage victory May 3  against the hard-hitting Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Citing different injuries in his past two bouts–injured hand against Robert Guerrero in May 2013 and an injured elbow when he faced Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last September–Mayweather explained that he wasn’t healthy enough to really pursue a KO. Hoping he can stay healthy against Maidana, “Money” says he will go for it against him due to Maidana always coming forward and engaging the action.

As Mayweather has said time and time again, styles make fights, and with the aggressiveness that Maidana usually fights with, giving Mayweather ample chances to land a counter-power shot that could set up an early stoppage is a real possibility.

Although we have seen fighters who are usually aggressive come out against “Money” and change their gameplan to try and out box a fighter who cannot be out boxed, Maidana is very unlikely to do so. He knows his best chance against anyone in the ring is his punching power and it would be surprising to see him move away from pushing the action May 3.

Opponents may never be able to crack the “MayVinci Code” with a pure boxing approach and the best chance will be to land that “lucky” shot and with the power Maidana posses, he may be able to bust open the “MayVinci Code” and shock the world. Doing so is easier said than done and until proven otherwise, it’s a slim chance for those on the other side of Mayweather in the ring.
