Floyd Mayweather creates a masterpiece in performance against Robert Guerrero

mayweather vs guerrero

After much speculation to how Floyd Mayweather would respond to a year long layoff and a two-month jail stint, Mayweather showed that it was just another day for the now 44-0 fighter.

After taking the first two rounds to get his timing down, Mayweather took control of the bout and dominated Robert Guerrero en route to a 12-round unanimous decision with all three judges scoring it 117-111 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

Looking sharper than he did against Miguel Cotto a year ago, Mayweather (44-0, 26 KOs) put on a vintage Money May performance. Using defense, offense and great footwork to keep Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KOs) from getting anything of real substance going, Mayweather appears ready to win out his 30-month Showtime deal.

Staying in the middle of the ring for the most part, Guerrero was unable to get Mayweather on the ropes much, keeping the physicality of the bout lower than Guerrero needed.

Now with yet another win under his belt, the focus will shift to who Mayweather will fight in his proposed September bout.

There are rumors of Money May fighting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in addition to a possible bout overseas in the United Kingdom against Amir Khan who was in attendance Saturday night.

With a UK bout happening sometime next year rather than September, another bout in Las Vegas, most likely at the MGM Grand again is the best bet.

If that is against Alvarez it remains to be seen, but if that fight does happen, the pay-per-view numbers could reach nearly two million buys. If the numbers reach anywhere near those numbers, it would probably push Mayweather’s record-tying $32 million payday to new heights.

As for Guerrero, he will have to see what his fate is at his court date in 10 days and if he will spend anytime in prison for the felony gun charges he picked up in late March. He still has a bright future in the sport and will give anyone not named Mayweather a run for their money.

The future of boxing will have to wait at least another two years as Mayweather looks ready to ride out the end of his career as an undefeated fighter.
