Diego Chaves’ visa approved, fight with Brandon Rios is a go

rios vs. chavesAfter a few days of uncertainty and reports stating the bout was off earlier today, Diego Chaves ended up getting his visa cleared at the last minute; allowing for his bout with Brandon Rios to be officially on Saturday Aug.2, at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas.

Boxing Scene even released an interview with Chaves, who said he wasn’t going to make it to the United States for the bout. Shortly after that interview was published news broke that the anticipated fight got the green light.

The boxing world has been eagerly waiting this bout as both fighters like to push the action and with that the fight has fight of the year candidate written all over it.

Rios is looking to get his career back on track after two consecutive losses and a failed drug test in his last bout, against Manny Pacquiao late last year. Another loss could really hurt Rios’ career going forward, so the 28-year-old former champ has to put forth a solid performance Saturday.

It will be interesting to see if Chaves is affected by the up-and-down week, not to mention he will be arriving in Las Vegas just three days before the fight.

The Rios-Chaves bout is part of a three-fight split-site HBO Boxing After Dark card that will also feature Jessie Vargas defending his WBA junior welterweight strap against Anton Novikov in Las Vegas and the hard-hitting Sergey Kovalev putting his WBO light heavyweight belt on the line against Blake Caparello in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
