Danny Garcia vs. Erik Morales II recap: Garcia KO’s Morales

by Mick Akers

Danny Garcia made sure his second go-round with the 36-year-old Erik Morales didn’t go a full 12 rounds as was the case earlier this year, as Garcia utilized his potent left hook once again, knocking Morales out in Round 4.

Seemingly using Morales as a high-paid sparring partner, Garcia had his way with the future hall of famer in each round leading up to the KO, going to the body and the head in a all-around impressive victory Saturday night.

Garcia came out ready to fight and put it on Morales early, something Garcia has not done too often in past bouts. Demonstrating that he is indeed worthy of being a champ, questions still loom over just how good Garcia really is.

Despite the impressive victory this rematch should not of happened so soon in the first place, as Garcia dominated Morales in their first bout this past March.

There was a rematch clause in the contract of the first Garcia-Morales bout, but Garcia should have waited to grant the rematch, opting instead to fight a younger fighter who would have built off the hype of his big Khan win more effectively.

Garcia should now shift his attention fighters who will put up more of a fight than a worn down veteran. A few names that come to mind are Lucas Matthysse, Lamont Peterson and Mike Alvarado to name just a few of the fighters who could give the 26-0 Garcia a run for his money.

A rematch with Amir Khan should also be entertained, but only after Khan has a solid showing in his December 15 showdown with Carlos Molina.

Garcia-Morales ll was the main event of four-title bout lineup that took place at the newly opened Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, marking the return of boxing to the area for the first time in over 80 years.
