As I write this, Ecuador is playing France in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and for the remainder of this month and half of July anything and everything World Cup will be generating headlines.
The tournament is heading into the round of 16, a stage in the World Cup in which it has been statistically proven that heart attacks go up around the world. On Saturday, Brazil plays in the first game of the knockout stages and while the world is fixated on the five time champions during morning, boxing fans and I mean the real boxing fans will have their eyes glued to HBO at night.
It is because two undefeated fighters, both in their primes and both at the highest levels of their craft will fight in Omaha, NE. Yuriorkis Gamboa on one side and featherweight champion Terence Crawford on the other. Both untested against elite competition at this point and both looking for a marque win over an elite opponent. This is what boxing is all about, competitive match ups against the top guys in their divisions.
