Canelo: ‘I’m going to shut him (Lara) up once and for all.’

Canelo Lara WokroutAs fight week is just a little over a week away things are heating up between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Erislandy Lara.

Alvarez has mentioned a few times in the press and on Showtime’s All Access that the 31-year-old Cuban national is getting under his skin after the way he bad mouths him to media.

“”He’s a good fighter but he talks a lot. He’s offended me,” Alvarez said at his media workout in San Diego Tuesday. “I’m going to have an answer for everything he has said. I’m going to shut him up once and for all.”

As Canelo looks to keep momentum moving forward after losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September, just winning is not enough to the 23-year-old Mexican star.

“I always want to win in spectacular fashion. That is my goal every time I step into the ring,” Canelo explained. “I want to win spectacularly on July 12. But the most important thing is for me to win. I can’t promise a knockout but if it comes, it comes.”

With the amount of trouble Canelo had with Mayweather, there is speculation that he could struggle with Lara as he is as good as anyone outside of Money May when it comes to a defensive style in boxing.

That being said there will be added pressure on Canelo to not only win, but win convincingly and the former junior middleweight titleholder says it won’t change his performance July 12.

“There is no extra pressure on me for this fight. I’m as confident and relaxed as I always am. I’m prepared for whatever Lara has to offer.

“At this level you have to be able to adapt and make the necessary adjustments. I know I’m coming to fight and I know he’s coming to fight. After that, whatever happens, happens.”
