Bob Arum “Canelo Alvarez should be angry at his promoters! He has a meaningless fight!”

Well it was only a matter of time before things were going to get nasty between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions. To the dismay of many fans, both promoters decided on staging two shows on September 15th. Golden Boy’s show would highlight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s first major PPV, though since then the bout has underwent three opponent changes and has been downgraded to Showtime. On that very night, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will finally face Sergio Martinez a fight many fans thought they would never see.

Both promoters have stated that they do not see each other as competition on the night of September 15th with Oscar De La Hoya admitting to us that the Chavez Jr./Martinez fight was a very good scrap. Bob Arum though does not feel that way about Saul Alvarez’s bout, “Canelo should be very angry at his promoter putting him in this position. To have essentially a meaningless fight to go up against what is a future classic. Alvarez was put in this position because of the ego of his promoter and he should be angry.” Wow…..talk about strong words. Arum has never been one to sugar coat anything and you can bet your dollars that De La Hoya or Richard Schaefer well respond thru the media in the next few days.

Arum did have nothing but good things to say about Alvarez as a person and a fighter citing that he believes the young champion is a good person and a great fighter. Hear the words yourself, check below for the full interview!
