Bob Arum believes a huge percentage of Boxing media uses Marijuana, will not condemn Chavez Jr. Marijuana use

You mention Marijuana in just about any conversation in terms of it’s use and if it should be prohibitive and a maelstrom of different views and opinions are unleashed. Currently, Marijuana is a prohibited substance to have in your body if you are a professional fighter testing under the many state athletic commissions that exist. Though a contingent of fans and spectators alike contend that Marijuana is in no way, shape or form a performance enhancing drug, athletic commissions treat offenders the same as those how test positive for steroids.

Top Rank founder Bob Arum is one of those protesters, Marcos Villegas recently caught up with him in Los Angeles as he asked Arum to recollect his initial reactions about learning that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. had tested positive for Marijuana metabolites after his title defense against Sergio Martinez. Arum goes full blast in his response, quoting that it is wrong to condemn Jr. for smoking a joint a month before his fight to help him go to sleep, “What the fuck has happened?! I mean, let’s be real about it, let’s not be hypocrites about it. Cheating…performance enhancing drugs..that’s cheating. That’s wrong. Smoking a joint a month before a fight…take a poll here. What kind of percentage do you think of people who’ve smoked a joint in the last month? So let’s be fuckin’ real!”
