With one day removed from the junior welterweight title unification bout between Amir Khan and Danny Garcia, things seem to be calm in Khan’s camp. Yesterday at the final press conference to hype their bout on HBO, Angel Garcia, the father of Danny Garcia went on one of his usual rants directed at Amir Khan. Our man Layzie The Savage was on hand to ask Khan about the whole ordeal who mentioned it has not affected him one bit. “Danny Garcia’s father has no class, they are not getting into my head. But it is personal now, I know I can knock him out,” said Khan.
Danny Garcia’s dad is like that friend you had in college that had no filter. You always wanted to invite him to parties and to hang out not because he was really cool or anything but rather because he made shit interesting and funny. Half the time he said things you would never say and you got a secret joy out of it knowing that you could just have him say everything you ever wanted to say and not get in trouble.
For me, much of the hype from this bout came from Garcia Sr. and I hope to hear more from him in the future. Hell I think he would make a great promoter but I am looking forward to today’s weigh in and tomorrow post fight presser just to hear what the elder Garcia has to say.
