Amir Khan “Andre Ward told me to be calm & relaxed; I made a mistake, but I am coming back stronger”

By Mick Akers

Former unified 140-pound champion Amir Khan is in a tough spot in his career in the ring. Although he is only 25 years old, he has fought 29 times going 26-3 in those contests.

Sure three losses does not seem too bad, but two of those loss’ have come by knockout and have raised serious questions about his chin.

Khan is right in that he was being too aggressive in his knockout loss to Danny Garcia in July. Khan was dominating Garcia until he was caught by a devastating shot at a time where he was going for a KO himself in Round 3, ultimately being taken out in Round 4.

If Garcia takes Andre Ward’s advice to be “calm and relaxed” in the ring, his career could see a revitalization as he has the skill and KO power to make a successful run at another title.

As we all know old habits die hard and it remains to be seen how Khan reacts if he gets into trouble in a fight and we’ll see if he resorts back to the over-aggressiveness that has hurt in him in fights before.

Khan switching trainers from Freddie Roach to Virgil Hunter could also give his career a new life. Khan seemed to hit a ceiling with Roach in their four-year partnership.

Don’t count Khan out just yet, as he is doing and saying all the right things, we will just have to wait and see if he puts his plan into action once he steps in the ring with Carlos Molina on Saturday December 15.
