“Canelo” Challenges Marquez?

In a bit of a odd statement, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez challenged lineal lightweight king Juan Manuel Marquez to fight him. The statements were made on Tuesday on a Mexican TV show. The statement was in response to Marquez’s comment on the WBC granting Alvarez a title shot of the super welterweight championship against Matthew Hatton on March 5th in Anaheim.

“I respect Juan Manuel, who is a good fighter, and if all goes well in my fight against Hatton I’ll make a challenge to Juan Manuel Marquez to see whether I have the ability,” Alvarez responded.

Alvarez has been getting criticism from boxers and trainers alike as Marquez trainer and “Nacho” Beristain spoke out against the decision as well.

I like to prove myself and I will show people, that’s a fact. I’m surprised that people in boxing like her “Nacho” and Juan Manuel Márquez don’t know that every boxer has a process. I’m in mine and I’ll show what I’m made of. I don’t care what they say because they are negative people and full of hatred in their hearts,” Alvarez said.
