When the clock struck midnight on December 31st, 2013 it officially brought in 2014. According to the Chinese calendar it ushered in the year of the horse but according to Alfredo Angulo, it will be the year of “El Perro.”
Angulo is looking to bounce back from his loss to Erislandy lara (a fight in which he was winning) as he takes on Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on March 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. It is a huge test for both fighters as Canelo has never faced a heavy hitter like Angulo and Angulo could become a sitting target for Alvarez due to his disdain for defense. Some fans are crying afoul of Alvarez’s choice in picking Angulo over Erislandy Lara and they have reason. Since beating Angulo, Lara is seen as the number one contender in the junior middleweight division and his slick style of boxing is something that could give Alvarez problems. We saw it in the Mayweather fight and their is no denying that Lara is the more technical boxer. It is probably the main reason that Alvarez choose Angulo for this fight but when you really think of it when has Angulo been in a boring fight?
Alvarez’s choice in our eyes had more to do with making sure he is able to sell his future PPV’s than not wanting to take on Lara. For Angulo, Lara is a thing of the past as his whole focus has been on preparing for Alvarez as he shares this and much more with our very own Marcos Villegas.
