Abner Mares never felt Anselmo Moreno’s punch, is looking to Bob Arum to make Nonito Donaire fight happen

Last Saturday night, Abner Mares put on a dominate display of both skill and aggression as he took on the slick Anselmo Moreno in a fight many said he would lose. The style of both fighters certainly made it plausible that the tussle would be a long drawn out boring fight. Mares though was dead set on making it his night as from the start he displayed aggression and relentlessness only a honey badger would display.

At the end of the night, he was clearly the winner, though some people press row though it was a bit of a closer fight than what the score cards suggested. The 120-106 score was absolutely stupid, and it is horrible that the same judge will be used to score further fights. Moreno clealy won the later rounds, as he finally was able to muster some offense in rounds 8-12, rounds in which I scored for him. I do agree with the 116-110 score, as the point deduction and the knockdown overall contribute to that. It was not a close fight thru my accounts; Abner Mares definitively beat Anselmo Moreno without a doubt and talks of a rematch should go the wayside.

I was able to catch up with Abner Mares after his victory, as we both talked the frustrations he had during his bout with Moreno, how he felt ultimately his pressure and power made the difference in the fight and how he hopes Bob Arum is able to make the fight between himself and Nonito Donaire happen.
