Roach: ‘Manny frequently put Amir on the floor, knocking him cold four or five times’

Roach on Pacquiao-Canelo

If you believe what hall of fame trainer, Freddie Roach says, then Amir Khan‘s questionable chin stayed true to form during several instances against Manny Pacquiao in past sparring matches.

Roach told The Daily Mail that Pacquiao was able to drop Khan on a few different occasions when the two sparred back when Roach was Khan’s trainer.

“Manny frequently put Amir on the floor, knocking him cold four or five times,” Roach said.

Roach divulged of the instances when he was asked if a Khan bout in London is something Pacquiao would be looking into next, if he can beat Chris Algieri Saturday night in Macau, China.

Roach explained he would encourage Top Rank’s Bob Arum to pass on a Khan bout stating, “There’s no point Manny fighting Amir. The reality is that it’s no big fight.”

Khan heard of Roach’s claim and took to social media to dispute his former trainer’s story, citing if it did happen why wouldn’t Pacquiao himself have something to say on the subject.

Khan went on to retweet Eli Seckbach saying that Alex Ariza backed up Khan and said that Pacquiao never knocked down Khan.

No matter who you beleive, or what Roach says about a potential Khan-Pacquiao bout, it is a big fight, especially if it is held in London.

Selling out Wembley Stadium, which holds around 60,000 fans for a fight, would net everyone involved a huge fight gate and the pav-per-view buys for the bout would approach 1 million if both fighters look solid leading up to the point that a possible fight is made.

Pacquiao will have to take care of business Saturday night against Algieri first before any real steam gets behind the talks, while Khan’s next bout is Dec. 7 against Devon Alexander at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
