Mayweather vs. Maidana II: Money May says ‘Maidana is trying to pull a Margarito-type move!’

The bi-annual trip to the sweltering Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas for a Floyd Mayweather media day was upon us Tuesday and Fight Hub was there to capture all of the action.

Mayweather went through his training regimen for the various media members in attendance and of course spoke with the press about his build up to the rematch with Marcos Maidana Saturday, Sept. 13, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather said he feels as strong as ever coming into the second bout with Maidana and credited eating better as one of the keys. This would contradict what the world saw on Showtime’s documentary series, All Access: Mayweather vs. Maidana II, when one of the members of his entourage brought Money May two Big Macs and some fries from McDonald’s, in the middle of his yoga class.

The 46-0 champion then went on to discuss the surprising appearance of former Manny Pacquiao strength and conditioning coach, Alex Ariza, in his camp. Ariza was present during the media workout, but Mayweather never said that Ariza was officially part of his team, but said the door is always open to work with any fighter in The Money Team’s camp.

Lastly, Mayweather touched on “Glovegate” saying that Maidana isn’t the one opposing using his own gloves that Mayweather’s camp refused to fight him with in May that his trainer, Robert Garcia was the one complaining about the situation.

Money May then said the reason that Maidana’s camp is so persistent to use the gloves in question is because he is trying to pull an Antonio Margarito-type move. Mayweather is referencing the controversy surrounding Margarito using a plaster-like hand wrap when he faced Shane Mosley in 2009 and was suspected of wearing in a 2008 bout with Miguel Cotto.

In the end Mayweather adviser, Leonard Ellerbe said there is no reason to talk about the gloves, as Maidana will wear Everlast’s Powelock gloves, end of discussion.
